Marriage IRL: When Anorexia Struggles Get In the Way of Honest Communication

It’s been awhile since I last featured a post in my Marriage In Real Life guest post series. However, I’m hoping to update this to be a more regular series and over the next couple weeks will be posting more of these posts. I think it’s so important to realize that we ALL deal with different issues in our marriage relationships – and that we can work together to overcome the challenges that our marriages bring us.

Today I’m partnering with Savannah from Millennial Mrs. and Mom as she shares about how her struggles with an eating disorder have affected her marriage. She also shares how and her husband work through the daily challenges they face in light of this struggle.

Thank you Savannah for sharing your story! Read more…

Why Having Three Kids is Hard, Why I’m Losing My Mind…and Why I’m Ok With It.

Y’all, it’s been a summer. A long summer. Having three kids is hard. I love them a million times each, I do. But. Goodness gracious.

A couple years ago, some friends of ours, who’d just had their third child, jokingly gave KP and I some advice. “Don’t have a third kid”, they joked.

They were probably only HALF joking.  Read more…

2017 Ultimate HEALTHY LIVING Bundle Review – why I’m not buying this one

For the past couple years, I’ve reviewed several of the Ultimate Bundles (see here for my list of other bundle reviews), the two biggest each year being the Homemaking bundle in the spring and the Healthy Living bundle in the fall. However, this time around – and since I pride myself on being extremely honest in this blog (and not just using it to try to make money) – I decided not write a 2017 Healthy Living bundle review. Because I decided not to buy it.

Here’s why I’m not buying the 2017 Healthy Living Bundle: Read more…

2017 PARENTING Super Bundle Review – I kind of like this one :)

When I first saw that there was going to be a “Parenting” Super Bundle, I was kind of lie ‘eh’. I’m not especially fond of being reminded of all the things I should improve on as a parent, ha ha. When it was announced what would be in the bundle, I also wasn’t particularly impressed by the bonuses (which are usually my favorite part). And then, there was a whole “Faith” section (which is my biggest hangup of the Homemaking bundle, as it isn’t necessarily a good fit for everyone).  So overall, I wasn’t sure what to do.

BUT. Then the thought of the bundle rolled itself around in my mind. And I google searched some of the resources and decided I wanted them. And there was a Homeschool section–something that I’m actually currently looking for resources on. And…I figured what the heck. I could do another bundle review to make me feel like it was worth it. So I bought it. Read more…

How I Home School the “Lazy Homeschooling” Way

There’s a lot of homeschooling blogs out there. The Screenwriter’s Wife is not one of them. While I might be homeschooling my daughter at the moment, I don’t really label myself as a “home school mom” either. I don’t know how long I’ll home school her or if I’ll also do so with the boys. I’m just doing what fits for right now. And right now, what fits is something I call “lazy homeschooling”.

I dabbled in homeschooling last year for TK (Transitional Kindergarten, a program here in CA for kids who turn 5 from Sept-Nov.), and will be doing it a bit more formally this coming year for the “official” Kindergarten year. I’m mostly using 1st grade materials though. One of my favorite things about homeschooling (so far at least) is that I can teach my daughter using whatever materials I think are best for her to learn. Since my daughter’s on the cusp of the “official grade level cutoff” anyway, I like being free from this arbitrary constraint. Read more…

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a giveaway, so it’s time for another one!

DateBox Club has offered to give away one of their September date night boxes to one of my readers…and that reader might just be YOU. 🙂

Though I think I’ve only written up 1 “official” review (hmm…that probably needs to change soon), KP and I have actually done a few of the DateBox Club boxes and really enjoy them. If you’re not familiar with DateBox Club, you can: Read more…

Rambling Ronni: Living, dying, spacetime.

There are more thoughts in my head than I have time to think about. To write out. To acknowledge. To make matter.

I’m stuck in my own world, in my own head, pondering. Feeling. Watching. Hoping.
Caught in this moment. This brief moment. Of all time. Of all existence.

My baby’s growing. I’m getting older. Years will pass. What is modern becomes what is outdated.
Everyone who came before me: I will soon be like you.
Everyone who comes after me: You will soon be like me. Read more…

700 sq ft, Family of 5: A Not So Fine Dining Room & Kid’s Play”room”

When you squeeze five people in a 700 square foot house, you have to make sacrifices somewhere. The biggest sacrifice we’ve had to make is in our eating space. We don’t have a proper kitchen table. What?? You might be saying – You have NO DiningTable?!?! Well, sort of. No. And sort of yes, too.

What we do have is the best we can do with the limited space we have: an all-in-one kitchen counter/island/dining table/toy storage shelf!  Read more…

Freddie’s Home Birth Story – The 13hr Tale of Stalled Labor, a maybe Nuchal Hand, Cervical Lip, and Older Sibling Chaos

Something was different – and much more difficult – with this labor & birth than with my first two. I struggled to put my finger on it at first, but in the end, I realized that my labor turned out to be one huge summation of my feelings on the entire pregnancy. Because, see, unlike with my previous two births, I didn’t feel strong and womanly being pregnant this time around. This time I felt weak and anxious and awkward and just wanted the whole thing done with.

And apparently all that carried over into what became my most trying labor experience of all.  Read more…

Rambling Ronni: Today is my due date.

Today is Baby #3’s due date. Thankfully, he’s here already and arrived 6 days ago. I’ve been trying to piece together his birth story because I really, really want to blog about it. Writing out my birth stories after each birth has been really therapeutic for me. Not that I’ve had traumatic births. I haven;t. But just because labor/birth in and out of itself is such a transformative process. Like for real. This new person come out of you. It’s crazy.

I’ve written about birth before.

Anyway. I really am trying to get the birth story together. But until then, this Rambling Ronni post will have to suffice. Read more…

700 sq ft, Family of 5: No “Master” Bedroom for the Parents’ Room

Back when I wrote my original “700 sq ft, Family of FOUR” post, I did not post any pictures of mine and KP’s bedroom or the “master” bedroom.
A) Our house has no master bedroom officially.
B) There’s not really any “space-saving tricks” in our room, and
C) Our room often ends up being the dumping ground for crap when we’re tying to keep the rest of the house picked up.

But since I’m gonna have a kid in here soon (like, actually HAVE the kid), I figured it was time to finally straighten it up and get the room in order. And hey, if it takes showcasing our room to the world in order to inspire me to action? Well, then, hey – it worked.

Crated With Love Date Night Box Review: I Love the 80s! (Apr. ’17)

Hey – I might be about to go into labor (fingers crossed for any day now! …though I’m realistically not due for another week or two, but still…I can hope…), but KP and I still find time for at-home date nights. Crated With Love again to the rescue! And let’s be honest, I highly doubt we’ll be getting out anytime soon after the birth for an out-of-the-house date night. So really – Crated With Love to the rescue! 🙂

April’s Crated With Love box theme was “I Love the 80s!” Read more…

700 sq ft, Family of 5: Three Small Kids in a Small Kids Room

Ok, ok, as of the time of this writing, Family Member #5 has not yet officially joined us. But it could be any day now, and we’ve already made the space for them, so I’m gonna show you how we’re planning to fit three kids in a small room.

KIDS’ BEDROOM SIZE:
Width:11′
Length: 9′
Total Sq. Footage: 99 sq. feet*

*I did not measure the closet

P.s. My kids insisted in being in their room (and in some of these pictures) as I was trying to take them. Because they’re kids. And it’s their room. So I let them, hey, if anything, they add a sense of realism to the pictures, right? 🙂 Read more…

Who Wants A FREE Essential Oils for Labor Printable? aka I Over-Research All The Things

Since I’m getting close to delivering my third child and planning another natural birth, I’ve recently been researching essential oils to use during labor this time around. Because why not? Right?

Turns out, there’s a TON of information out there to wade through as far as what oils to use in labor. And because I’m weird like that, of course I had to go on a whole fact-finding mission and search every. single. website. I. could. find. on essential oils in labor and compile all the information into an excel document so I could sort the best – and most popular – oil suggestions.  Read more…

Rambling Ronni: I’m sorry I talk about being pregnant so much.

It took KP and I two years before I got pregnant with my first child. There was a lot of emotion and frustration and impatience and stress during that time time of trying so that when I did end up pregnant, I tried to be ultra-sensitive to anyone else who might still be trying to conceive. I hardly ever talked about the daily realities of being pregnant. I tried to never complain. I felt almost like i wasn’t “allowed” to. After all, I should be so happy to be pregnant – and I was – that I felt guilty ever being negative about anything.  Read more…

Date Night In Subscription Box Review – March 2017 Pamper Your Love

Two years ago, when I first stumbled onto the concept of at-home date night subscription boxes and put together a blog post listing the ones that I’d found – I had NO IDEA how the post would take off, how many new and exciting date night box companies were in development and how many date night boxes KP and I would be lucky enough to get to try out and review! It’s certainly been fun to see what each date night box service offers and feeling as though I’ve become the “expert” on all things date night boxes, lol.

A few months ago, I stumbled upon a new company, Date Night In, and KP and I finally got a chance to try out one of their boxes. Read more…

Unbox Love February 2017 Review

KP and I have had the great privilege of being able to try out many of these date night subscription boxes over the past year or two. First and foremost, I want to thank all of the date night subscription box companies out there for providing such a service! In the early years of marriage it’s often easy to spend time together as a couple and do regular date nights – but man, as time passes and life changes (especially if/once kids enter the mix), finding time to spend together is a SERIOUS challenge. And getting OUT of the house alone together, for a “proper date”, especially without family nearby, feels almost darn near impossible at times.  Read more…

Are the Ultimate Bundles Legit? Scam? Amazing deal? Or marketing ploy?

So a blogger you follow is raving about this “Ultimate Bundle” thing. But you’re skeptical (and as you should be! Good for you, using discernment before jumping on bandwagons!) and you searched “ultimate homemaking/ healthy living/ essential oil/ photography/ whatever bundle reviews” or perhaps just “ultimate bundles review” and ended up here.

If so, welcome! – you’ve landed at the right place. Before becoming a blogger myself, I too saw these bundles and wondered what they were all about. I’m here to give you my honest-to-goodness lowdown on these bundles. The good, the bad, and the ugly.  Read more…
