Yes. Its April. And I’m just now posting this review for February’s Unbox Love date night subscription box.
I’m behind in life right now. 🙁
But I’m catching up! 🙂
(until Baby #3 arrives next month, that is. In which case I’ll probably get behind again. 🙁 I try, I try…)
KP and I have had the great privilege of being able to try out many of these date night subscription boxes over the past year or two. First and foremost, I want to thank all of the date night subscription box companies out there for providing such a service! In the early years of marriage it’s often easy to spend time together as a couple and do regular date nights – but man, as time passes and life changes (especially if/once kids enter the mix), finding time to spend together is a SERIOUS challenge. And getting OUT of the house alone together, for a “proper date”, especially without family nearby, feels almost darn near impossible at times.
KP and I are not immune to this struggle either. Hence why I’m often late at getting these date night box reviews up…because sometimes it’s really hard for us to find time to spend quality time together too.
All of these date night boxes we’ve been lucky to get to review have really helped our relationship. I’m glad they exist. Because we’re “forced” (lol) to spend time together doing them.
If you’re on the fence about trying out one of these – know that even if a box’s contents at first seem silly or strange, that good can really come out of them. Spending time together with your spouse, engaging in a new or different activity, just talking to each other, or deciding to get more into one activity of a box while quickly breezing through another – it’s all good.
Here’s to at home date nights and stronger marriages and relationships all around!
And here’s…finally, I know…mine and KP’s Feb. 2017 Unbox Love Date Night Review:
(Disclaimer: I was given a free box to review, but I was not paid to write this and – as with ALL my date night box reviews – all opinions are fully honest and completely my own!)
I kind of dug this box. Unlike previous Unbox Love boxes, it did not include a board or card game, but it did include several other items/activities that we’ll probably keep using.
Here’s what the box contained:
– a brownie baking set, enough for 6 heart brownies
– 4 blocks of Premo sculpty clay
– 2 “Hot Yoga” flavored Pandora’s Pops aphrodisiac lollipops
– a handful of Wint-O-Green lifesavers
– a set of “For His/Hers Eyes Only” question cards
– the date activity cards and insturctions
– a Together Journal: A Letter Writing Journal For People in Love from TheHappinessCardCo.com
We started the date by making heart shaped brownies with the included kit. While they were cooking, we chilled on the couch and filled out our “For Your Eyes Only” cards. Sometimes I feel like we are so old and married, ha ha, because we allllmost knew every answer the other was going to say.
Note for any dating or not-yet-there couples: One question did ask “Where’s the first place you made ‘whoopie’?” I mean, though to be honest, I suppose you could define ‘whoopie’ to mean whatever you want, and who knows, maybe you and your significant other have indeed made some kind of ‘whoopie’ but not the other, lol…but whatever. You catch my drift. 🙂 If you’re not at the stage in a dating relationship where this question would be applicable, you could either skip over it, or perhaps it would lead to an honest conversation together about your relationship intimacy level expectations.
The activity card suggested ‘making a spark’ with the Wint-O-Green lifesavers, and KP and I thought it would be fun to try to blend them, as suggested. We didn’t get any sparks though, which was kind of a bummer, just a bunch of white powder! Either way, we turned it into brownie topping decorations.
When the brownies were done, we did some decorating, each chose our favorite one for dessert, and then settled in on the couch for our next activity: modeling clay.
For the next half hour or so, we chilled in front of the tv (hey, when you work in the entertainment industry, keeping up to date on shows is “research”, ok? 🙂 ), chatted, and molded clay into whatever we felt like. I admittedly forgot to take pictures of our clay building during this time, and only remembered later as I was putting my picture frame and small pyramid of spheres (?? not sure what I made, but my daughter liked it!) into the oven to bake.
(Kyle wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his creation, so for now, I just baked mine.)
At this point, it was getting late, and after flipping through the super cute Together Journal, we decided to push that activity to the next day. I’m really looking forward to us using the journal though; it looks really great. I hope KP and I can make it a habit to write notes/letters to each other in it.
Oh, and if you must know – the Pandora’s Pops aphrodisiac lollipops were not officially part of one of the date night activity cards, so we’re saving them for now…until a time I’m not 8 months pregnant and awkward all the time, ha ha ha. But they do look pretty interesting…
We enjoyed our Unbox Love date! One thing that KP and I have discovered through these date night boxes is that we really enjoy being creative together. So any kind of painting, sculpting, or building boxes tend to be a good fit for us. 🙂 However, another thing that I love about all these boxes is that they always change things up, so you never know what you’re gonna get each month!
I was also really impressed with the quality of materials in February’s Unbox Love box. The sculpty was good qualiy and easy to work with, the Pandora’s Pops were a really fun idea, and the Together Journal was super adorable!
One other nice thing is that Unbox Love now includes some new things with their dates: a Spotify playlist, instructional videos, as well as a suggested date night recipe card.
